Does UFS Explorer work with smartphones?

UFS Explorer works with removable memory cards employed by smartphones. Yet, some smartphones and other portable gadgets, like smartwatches, MP3 players, etc. store their data in the internal memory rather than removable storage media. When such a storage is connected to the computer, only a virtual representation of its file system can be opened via Media Transfer Protocol while the real one is blocked for access by the manufacturer for security purposes. Low-level access to such a storage may be possible in some cases with Superuser permissions (for example, on Android phones), but rooting a device is not recommended as it may lead to a series of undesired consequences.

Can I use UFS Explorer to recover data from a network storage?

UFS Explorer can be used to recover data from NAS and from shared network drives as described in the instructions. Yet, please note that files lost from cloud storages provided by online services cannot be retrieved with the help of any data recovery software, as the storage devices that keep the content are located remotely and are completely under the control of the service provider.

Can UFS Explorer be used to recover data from a drive with bad sectors or other issues?

In case of any hardware issues that can be assumed because of unusual noises, slow access times, bad blocks constantly appearing on the drive or other characteristic symptoms, further use of the device may cause additional damage to it and even result in irreversible data loss. Therefore, it is highly recommended to immediately disconnect the storage medium and contact reputable data recovery professionals. Yet, if it is recognized in BIOS, and you have the expertise required to work with such drives, please, follow the instructions and recommendations provided in the data recovery guide dedicated to defective disks.

Why don’t I see any drives after starting the software?

Please make sure that the software has been launched with administrator rights to be able to work with the drives and partitions. If you are running UFS Explorer in macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later, please follow the instructions to disable System Integrity Protection (SIP), a special security feature that prevents the software from accessing physical drives. Also, ensure that the drives are connected correctly and that they are detected in BIOS.
