UFS Explorer
Contents / Virtual disks

UFS Explorer supports two kinds of virtual disks:
  • Image files - the files, containing disk data and located on 'local' file system;
  • Virtual images - Image files, located on file system, accessible with UFS Explorer.
Image files
The Image files could be opened by pressing 'Open disk image' button on Quick command bar, main menu or with keyboard (Ctrl+O). You may choose any of supported disk image files, including virtual disks of virtualization software, CD/DVD images or RAW disk images.

After you press 'Open disk image', the standard 'Open file' dialog will appear, allowing you to choose the file. After file selection it will be opened in UFS Explorer.

UFS Explorer supprts Drag'n'Drop on Navigation tree, thus you may drag image file directly to Navigation tree.

Virtual images
The unique feature of UFS Explorer that allows to open image file (same disk image files and virtual disks) from the file system, available throu UFS Explorer without temporary file creation on local file system. For example, you may open CD/DVD image file from Ext2 file system and browse its content without copying image to Windows disk.

To open Virtual image, find it with UFS Explorer, invoke file context menu and choose 'Open in UFS Explorer'. File will be opened as virtual disk immediately.

In case you installed Drag'n'Drop optional component, you may drag any files from UFS Explorer Navigation list to Navigation tree and they will be opened as Virtual images (Note: any folders will not be processed).

Specifics
For list of supported disk image types and formats, please refer to Technical specifications. Any virtual disk have to be opened manually: either as Image file or Virtual image.

Virtual images indirection is not limited: from Virtual image you may open contained Virtul image and so on.

You may close any virtual disk by selecting it in Navigation tree and pressing Delete or by invoking 'Close disk' option from context menu.

If container disk is closed for Virtual image, the Virtual images will be closed too (all related virtual images).

After Image file or Virtual image is opened, UFS Explorer automatically detects all file systems there and there are no more difference between these virtual disks and other disks.

Associations
You may set up file associations for supported disk images and virtual disks in UFS Explorer. Open 'General settings' in main manu and indicate which of files should be opened automatically in UFS Explorer. These settings usually make no conflicts with virtualization software.
