Contents / Accessing a file
General information File access in UFS Explorer works with file copying into 'local' file system (Windows disk that is available for read/write) and normal file access after this. Before accessing any file with UFS Explorer, be sure disk or virtual disk is opened in UFS Explroer. All physical drives are detected automatically. To open virtual disk - see Virtual disks article; to open removable disk - see Removable disks article. After disk is opened, UFS Explorer automatically searches for all available file systems there. You have not to take any actions at this stage. Each detected file system will be displayed under 'Disk' (see. User interface). You may now select in Navigation tree or Navigation list (see. User interface) required disk and file system under it. You may do this either with keyboard or mouse. After file system selection UFS Explorer will display its root folder and further navigatin works in Windows Explorer-like style. File names encoding In case you are experiencing problems with incorrect displaying of non-latin charected, the problem could be caused by wrong encoding for non-unicode file system. You may set correct encoding or charecter code page by invoking 'Properties' dialog in File system context menu (default is UTF-8). The feature will not work for unicode file systems. You need to refresh folder contents after code page or encoding is changed. Navigation After file system selection you may start to use 'File search' feature (see Srearching a file). If you are not sure were file is reside, feel free to use this 'Search' feature. Navigating file system you may:
Now you may select one or more files or folders, either on Navigation list or Navigation tree, invoke context menu and choose 'Copy to..' to copy them to Windows disks. If you had installed 'Drag'n'Drop' feature, you may just drag files or folders to Windows folders. Additionally, you may open any file by activating it in UFS Explorer. This will cause file to be copied into Windows temporary folder and to be opened with default application, registered for the file type. When you copying some files (especially large ones), progress dialog will be displayed. Here you can abort the operation or review file copying log. In case of any errors you may save this log to file for future analysis. UFS Explorer supports navigation with direct folder path specification. Turn Navigation bar to 'Edit mode' and enter file path to navigate to. NOTE: Folder path must include disk and file system specification. Disk number must be specified in form 'DiskN', file system - 'PartM', where N,M - numbers. Numbers indicate disk/file system ordinals in UFS Explorer and start from 1. Thus path to 'Boot' folder in root of first file system of firts disk will be: "/Disk1/Part1/Boot". NOTE 2: Some file systems are case sensetive and some are not. UFS Explorer always uses file system specifics thus, for example: 'Boot' and 'boot' on NTFS are same folders, but on UFS - different. |
