The controls description:
  1. Main menu button. The main menu has the following components:
    • 'Open disk image' - opens any supported disk image file (with format auto detection). Refer to Virtual disks article for more information about virtual disks.
    • 'Open user manual' - opens this manual;
    • 'General settings' - opens genral settings dialog;
    • 'Software License Information' - shows current registration status. It also allowas to enter registration code. More details are available in Software registration article.
    • 'About software' - show 'about software' dialog;
    • 'Exit' - closes the application.


  2. Quick command bar. It has the following components:
    • Open virtual disk button.
    • Switch view button. It switches file list view to either list or big icons.


  3. Navigation bar. The Vista-style navigation bar that shows current navigation status and has set of features to help with file system navigation. It supports the following modes:
    • Tool bar mode (see Pict.1).
      • Left icon is used to enter edit mode.
      • Buttons with folder names are used to navigate the specified folder.
      • Dropdown button is used to show navigation history and enter edit mode;
      • Refresh button is used to refresh current folder.
      • White space click could be used to enter edit mode.
    • Edit mode
      • Left side has usual dropdown with enabled edit mode and history selection;
      • Right side has 'Go' button.
    • Progress mode - the navigation bar has the same style as in Tool bar mode, except controls are disabled and background shows pending operation progress.

  4. Search bar. It has the following components:
    • Edit field to enter search token;
    • Search button - to start search;
    • Advanced serach dropdown-like button.

  5. Navigation tree. This tree show hierarchical structure of the data.
    • The root element is 'Computer'.
    • Below 'Computer' there are all currently opened storages: phisical or virtual disks (see 'Windows disk 0' on Pict. 1);
    • Each storage may contain one or more file systems, which are shown under each disk (see 'win-vi (NTFS)' on Pict. 1).
    • After you starting navigation of the file system, UFS Explorer shows folders structure under file system.

  6. Navigation list - displays contents of current folder on file system or contents of 'Computer' (disks) or 'Disk' (file systems) virtual folders. For more information about navigation, please refer to Accessing a file article.

  7. Status message - displays most informational, warning and error messages. Navy color indicates informational message. Orange - warning and red - error. Please pay attention to these messages.
    'Red status' of navigation operation could mean file system problems and could indicate data recovery is required with UFS Explorer Recovery editions or other data recovery software.

Control with keyboard:
  • F1 - show this help;
  • F3 - invoke advanced search (refer to Srearching a file article);
  • F4 - open selected file;
  • F5 - refresh current folder;
  • Backspace - go to parent folder;
  • Delete - close selected virtual disk (in tree only);
  • Context menu - shows context menu;
  • Enter - activate selected item;
  • Numpad + - expand tree item;
  • Numpad - - collapse tree item;
  • Tab - switch focus between tree and list;
  • Arrows - navigation on tree/list elements (depends of which one is active);
  • Ctrl + A - select all (in file list);
  • Ctrl + F - same as F3;
  • Ctrl + O - open virtual disk;
  • Ctrl + \ - go to root folder.
