FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

General software use (go back)

Q: How can I access data on BSD floppy?
A: Right-click 'Computer' at left panel and choose 'Re-scan disks, including CD/DVD and floppies'. This will detect floopy disk. After this you may access the data as usual.

Q: I see only 'unknown' partition. Where are files?
A: Right-click partition and choose 'File systems: fast detect'. UFS Explorer will find supported file system on partition. In case it does not, this could mean partition table is not supported. In this case use Data Recovery: lost partitions recovery method.

Q: I can't run the files, do I need to register first?
A: UFS Explorer in Trial mode could open only files below 64KB. For larger files only HEX preview is available. Before registration you may access only files below 64KB, for larger files registration is required.

Q: Does it run on Linux? (Solaris, MacOS etc.)
A: Currently UFS Explorer is only available for Windows NT-based platform, version 5.0 and later: Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista etc.

Q: I am attempting to read some information from a VMWare disk. The disk is split into 2 GB files. Should I be able to read it with your product?
A: From point of view of UFS Explorer, this configuration matches to JBOD RAID. You should use UFS Explorer Professional Recovery to assemble parts into one 'RAID' disk and only then you could access the data.

Q: Will you program support the XYZ filesystem?
A: We are working on software functions extension and could add new file system to support. For any specific file system you may request its inclusion into software in case:
  • File system is widely-used;
  • Direct access to this file system will not violate any laws.
To guarantee new file system access implementation in UFS Explorer it's recommended to include file system technical specification into your request.

Q: How would I view the .uci files?
A: You may open these files with UFS Explorer (Recovery editions). They are disk images similar to MacOS .dmg files, containing compressed and uncompressed disk data chunks with some metadata for on-the-fly data access.
