FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Data Recovery (go back)
Q: Result is a lot of files I don't know the name of. What are they?
A: They are files, detected with set of data recovery algorithms.
For deleted files or files on damaged or formatted file system there are no guarantee that file name information is still availble, thus UFS Explorer always assigns virtual names for any detected file.
After file name for file is found, UFS Explorer changes file name to valid one and could move it under right parent folder. Because some directory tree or file name data could be missing, some files could still have virtual names.
Files, detected with RAW recovery always have virtual names.
Q: Why files don't they have the exact names?
A: Either because file is detected with RAW recovery, UFS Explorer not supports file names detection with Advanced Recovery for the file system or file name information is missing.
Q: I have a storage network device, need to undelete a file. How can I do that?
A: You have to eject hard disk from network device and connect it directly to Windows PC either by native interface (SATA/PATA) or USB adaptor.
After this UFS Explorer will be able to see the hard drive and you may use Advanced Recovery scan on this device.
Note: Be sure UFS Explorer detected valid file system before running the scan.
Q: Can your UFS Explorer Pro also scan on bad sectors of a media?
A: If some sector is not readable, UFS Explorer trying to scan it. It's strongly not recommended to use/scan the drive in case it has damaged sectors (because of high probability of disk surface damage)!
In case you are planning self-service recovery, it's recommended to make bit-to-bit drive image file ASAP, disconnect the drive and continue recovery attempts using disk image.
Disk imaging is available with UFS Explorer (Data Emergency backup).
Q: Can I recover deleted files on my XYZ partitioned hardisk?
A: Classic 'undelete' is available on NTFS file system only. Less accurate 'undelete' is possible for FAT (because file allocation information is already lost). For other file systems you may consider to use Adavanced recovery tool that could allow file recovery with no actual file name.
Adavanced recovery for FAT and NTFS allows 'undelete' with correct file names.
